CUSTOM PAINTED AT-AT
CUSTOM PAINTED AT-AT WALKER
I was commissioned to custom paint and modify an original 1981 Kenner STAR WARS / AT-AT WALKER.
The first image shows the AT-AT in its original form albeit with some ' Battle scar damage '
This was achieved by taking a Dremel engraver to the shell and scoring realistic lazer/missile scars. Some lovely burring effects happen where the plastic melts.
A few layers of Montana spray paint were applied as a base coat then copious layers of wet/dry acrylic and sanding were applied to achieve that antiqued weathered look
with matt acrylic varnish being applied on each successive layer to give a sense of depth to the weathering.
Modifications took the form of junk metal, wiring and small electronic components being applied to the body for added realism and to break up the manufactured smooth feel of the shell.
Wire meshing material was also used for any windows and portholes.
Weathering powder was used on the recesses especially the undercarriage to pick out details and flatten anything shiny.
Lastly 'Ghosted' graffiti was added for that sci-fi ghetto look before taking the AT-AT for a photo shoot on a local beach before handing him over to the new owner.
